Description: |
The Health Effects Institute (HEI)
seeks a strong candidate to join the Institute’s scientific
staff with expertise in epidemiology and exposure assessment,
ideally with an international perspective. HEI has an opening
for a well-trained scientist to work with the Director of
Science and HEI’s scientific staff, along with its President,
Vice President, and expert scientific committees, to help
identify and understand key air pollution issues, develop
requests for applications in specific topics, manage the
review and selection of studies for funding, oversee ongoing
studies, ensure adherence to schedules and procedures, manage
the review of completed HEI studies, and draft commentaries on
them, among other functions. As qualifications and experience
permit, the successful candidate will also apply these skills
to HEI’s Public Health and Air Pollution Program which is
targeted at air pollution and health in the developing
countries; she/he may also be asked to assume a leadership
role in this area. Experience in scientific capacity building
in developing countries in Asia and an understanding of the
roles and interests of international public health and
regional entities (e.g., WHO) will be of added value. |
|
HEI offers
competitive salaries and excellent benefits. Interested
applicants should submit a letter (including salary
expectations), curriculum vitae, and two or three samples of
independent writing as soon possible. Review of applicants
will begin by June 30, 2011, but the position will be
open until a suitable candidate is found.

The Health Effects Institute (HEI), a leading independent,
nonprofit research institute, has provided rigorous,
impartial, and important science to the national and global
public debate on the health effects of air pollution over the
last quarter-century. Supported jointly by the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency and the automotive industry,
and periodically by other domestic and international partners,
HEI provides science to inform key national and international
regulatory decisions and other actions that are directly
relevant to improving air quality. HEI’s approach is centered
on funding high-quality, independent scientific studies that
are strategically selected and carefully designed to inform
upcoming decisions about air quality policy. HEI funds
research at leading institutions throughout the world through
competitive selection processes, oversees this research
attentively, and publishes its findings broadly, enabling
policymakers to apply it in their actions to protect the
public health. Information on HEI is available at
